Getting started with a WINZ/OSCAR subsidy
TOA is an OSCAR-approved programme, which means eligible families can apply for a WINZ (Work and Income NZ) Out of School Care and Recreation subsidy. Most families who apply receive significant support — and many pay nothing at all.

Do I qualify for the subsidy?
✓ You are a NZ citizen or permanent resident
✓ Your child is under 14 and in school
✓ Attending an OSCAR-approved programme — TOA is approved
✓ You are working, studying, or on an approved WINZ benefit
✓ Household income is within WINZ thresholds (most NZ families qualify)
✓ The child's other parent or caregiver can't provide care during those hours

Check eligibility with WINZ
Call 0800 559 009 or log in to myMSD. Do this before booking your child into any programme to help with any delays or hold-ups during the application process.
Be sure to apply 3–4 weeks before care starts so your children can start exactly when you need them to.

If approved, the subsidy goes straight to us. You pay only the remaining difference each week.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Can I backdate my subsidy application?
Yes — WINZ can pay from the date you first contact them, as long as you complete the application form within 20 working days of that date.
I only use the holiday programme — do I need a full application?
First time, yes. After that, holiday-only families can use the shorter OSCAR Declaration Form that WINZ sends before each school holiday period.
Does the subsidy renew automatically each term?
No. You must reapply for each term and each holiday programme separately. WINZ will send a reminder via your myMSD account.
What if my application is declined?
You're responsible for the full programme fee if declined, so check eligibility early. Call us if you're unsure — we can help you assess before you apply.
